Day 12, August 20, 2011
Today my wife and I had the opportunity to go to a free Baptist training in Indianapolis. It was so wonderful to spend the morning with fellow Christians. We had a great time learning more on how to reach people for Christ through better teaching methods in the church. I had the opportunity to learn about singles ministry today. My teacher was a wonderful Christian man from Texas who had a southern draw. I am really glad that I choose the class because I learned about so much more than just singles ministry. My wife and I are in charge of the students and young adult programs that include ages 11-30 and so I wanted to learn every drop of knowledge this man could offer to help us in all areas of our ministry. He truly offered so many helpful tools to further our ability to lead the student and young adult ministries at our church.
It is so wonderful to come home with new ideas to teach our youth, college, and young adults. I learned the importance of teaching transformationally instead on just instructionally. It truly opened my eyes about the importance of developing a hunger in our youth and young people to seek out the truths of the Bible themselves. When the speaker was teaching today, I knew that he was identifying one of the biggest problems in youth and young adult ministry today. If the youth and young adults do not make the Bible their own and seek out its truths for problems they encounter in life then we have taught them nothing.
How important is the Bible to you? Do you seek out its wisdom when you encounter problems and trials in life? Oh that we would develop a radical hunger for the Word. We have the greatest book in human history with truths from our creator and yet many of us know so little about what it says. I encourage each of you to begin to seek out Jesus through His word today.
Lord,
May I know you more. May I seek to understand you through the truth you made available to me in your Word. I thank you so much for the encouragement of having mature Christians come along to mentor and teach me so that I may learn from the things You have taught them and have a greater impact for Your kingdom. Lord, I ask that you would show me yourself in the Bible that I might truly understand all that you intending me to understand in it. I thank you for your gracious love that brought us such a wonderful insight to who You are.
Amen
I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday.
Blessings,
Greg
